The souls of slain creatures and beings join with and increase the power of the killer. Scattered groups of these non-human creatures worship arch-devils, lesser devils, and demons such as Asmodeus, Baalzebub, and Barbed. An even smaller number of these creatures follow one of the evil, neutral, and good deities listed above. For example, the peaceful half-orc Utarg Tribe of the Hidden Forest worships Mielikki.

Aisha, Mistress of Night, the Gatherer of Souls

Kharados the Mage was a powerful man, and like all powerful men he loved beautiful things; his beautiful mansions, his beautiful tower, his beautiful gardens, his beautiful treasury and, most of all, his beautiful elven wife Arvalan.

Yet Kharados feared, as all, powerful, men do, one thing – Kharados feared his own death. And so he honed his magic and, by hiding his heart in the shadowy folds of magics mantle he held the hand of Hades at bay - and over the ages the wrath of Hades grew.

Then there came a time of joy to Arvalan, though Kharados was racked with fear, for she fell pregnant with child and, in time, she gave birth to a girl child, radiant and bright, that she named Corinda for the light that seemed to glimmer about her.

But after the birth of her child Aravalan sickened and grew gravely ill, pale and feverish for three days the stricken elf lay still and silent upon her birthing bed until, at midnight of the third night, her piercing scream shook the household.

In the night Aravalan gave birth to a second daughter, but Aisha was born with cold eyes and a darkened skin though in giving Aisha life her mother perished, for the strain of her labour proved too great for the fragile elf maid.

Kharados was devastated and distraught yet, as his daughters grew to beautiful young women, he found pleasure anew for, while Aisha herself grew tall and fair, Corinda grew to be the glorious image of her mother; and for that Kharados loved Corinda the more.

So it was that Hades conceived a plan and whispered long over many years to Aisha in the deep of the night whence Aisha learned her dark arts, and made her pact with the ‘cheated’ Lord of the Dead.

There came a time of great rejoicing, for the young ladys were to come of age and Kharados ensured the day would be remembered in the memories of those he wished to impress, though for Corinda (as always) was the day mostly blessed.

It was there that, at the height of the festivities, Aisha struck, erasing the burden of her troubled youth.

Beautiful fireworks graced the twilight skies as Kharados embraced his most beloved daughter before all who sought his favour, Aisha stepped unseen from the shadows and slew her twin sister with a single stroke of her shimmering blade.

In that instant, as Corinda fell, within the shadowy folds of magics mantle the heart of Kharados was frozen, shattered and broken to myriad pieces, and death’s hand found Kharados at last.

And thus, amid the jubilant laughter of Hades, Aisha, Mistress of Night, the Gatherer of Souls, slipped unseen in to the Immortal Dark.

Saint Marcus

Saint Marcus was, in life, a simple baker. He was not a cheerful halfling and tended toward outbursts of anger (especially when people smeared grubby fingerprints on his nice, clean windows). However, he was always pleased to see villagers and visitors that appreciated his baked goods. If the local children were polite and well-behaved, he would frequently treat them to his collection of handmade cakes and candies. He loved to experiment with new combinations of ingredients and always had a remedial bun for all occasions. Colds, Rashes, insect bites and the likes were easily overcome by his wonderous herbal concoctions which he would bake in the form of pies, cakes, candies and buns.
Marcus was, however, an elderly halfling.... and had the temperament of an aged halfling to match. Easily confused, the children loved to watch him as he picked arguments with uneven pavements, unruly pets and the occasional bird that startled him. He was prone to moments of confusion and had a great love of excessive drinking.

He became a Saint when he saved the village from an invasion of GiAnts one night, as the villagers slept. It has become legendary how he selflessly ran through the streets, armed only with a rolling pin, and fought his way to the belltower. Once at the belltower, he rang the bell and alerted the village to the impending doom. Not satisfied with this, he then proceeded to throw himself from the cliff and cleverly used his impressive girth to block the hole from which the GiAnts came.

The Clerics now hold feasts for everyone and embrace the idea that the selfless giving of food is a wonderful way to bring a community together. Clerics believe that community, fun, food, singing, dancing and general indulgence are paramount toward a succesful society. Other than these traits, the priesthood can vary in many ways. Some are lazy, others are highly enthusiastic. Many dabble with healing, whilst others are more concerned with song and dance.

Saint Marcus appears in visions as a portly halfling holding a magical rolling pin. He can appear confused, clumsy and arrogant at times, and is famous for messing up his magic spells. Quite often, he appears and his mouth moves, but his words are not heard until several days later.... or vice versa. He has also been known to appear in a cloud of smoke briefly before dropping into the sea... (the splash was heard three days later)

The Ancient Temple of Anrys

Anrys was an ancient elven word for dragons. The Anrys clerics and monks lived many centuries ago in a once lavish culture which centered around the religion. The culture knew nothing of good or evil, instead accepting that an individual may choose from many paths in life.

Clerics and Monks were said to adorn themselves with the color of their guardian dragon. It was also rumored that these individuals also tended to adopt characteristics of the dragon although this has been put down to hearsay and legend.

In fact the entire religion vanished from the world centuries ago and has slipped into tales and mythology. Some claim that the worshippers of the dragon never really existed, whilst others claim that they still worship in secret cults by moonlit vigils.

The Anrys were closely linked with several other religions, notably Sune Firehair, Mystra and Loki amongst others. It is interesting to note that the Sune temples also vanished around the same time. Historians claim that the Sune temple was destroyed by an invasion of a dark army, and they speculate that this may have been the same fate as the Anrys. Sceptics say that neither religion truly existed in the first place.

Anrys was reputedly a purely elven religion which stems from pre-recorded history. Although classed as a religion, there is no worshipped deity. In actuality, the Anrys are more of an ancient elven cult that reveres dragons.

Brownie/Fey Deities
by Flamecrow

Finnavar: Also known as the “king of the fairies”
Alignment: Chaotic Neutral

Finnavar is the god of pleasure and enjoyment, who also has a great liking of gold. He is sometimes referred to as the lord of the dead, for he ‘collects’ the fallen brownies and fairies and turns them into gold. This is to stop their souls from roaming about freely across the world and causing havoc. His wife, Diaone Sidhe, comes just after him to save the souls from this imprisonment and send them to the afterlife.
He is mischievous by nature and not one that you should simply trust when you encounter him. Finnavar likes to play jokes on people, as do his followers. Those who actually gain their trust though will have valuable and trustworthy allies, as long as you do not offend them.
Also Finnavar is known for his love for women, and though married to Daoine Sidhe; he often still chases the brownies and even mortals for the sheer fun of it. Some followers of Daoine consider him to be the sign of infidelity, while others (often Finnavar’s own followers) see it as nothing more then a little fun and definitely good exercise. Because those long legged mortals sure can run!

Appearance: Finnavar is pictured as a round-bellied man; due to all the delicious food his wife makes for him, with a small grey beard. He looks a bit like a dwarf, yet his clothing immediately shows the difference. He is fond of bright colours and especially of golden. His symbol is a chest full of gold (sometimes with a few women dancing around it).

Daoine Sidhe: Wife to the ‘Fairy king’ Finnavar
Alignment: Neutral Good

Daoine Sidhe is the goddess of Forests and Nature. She provides all of the brownies with food and drinks, mostly through the power of nature. Nature however also includes all that live in it, so taking it from humans would not be something unusual or necessarily evil. Important with Daoine is that you never take more then you need.

Also the goddess of marriage and love, Danoine Sidhe stays loyal to her husband Finnavar even throughout all of his little escapades with all the mortals. She is sometimes angered with him, yet all the brownies know that they will make up in the end. Which is usually enough to have a huge celebration about, and what brownie doesn’t like to party?

Lastly, Daoine collects the souls that her Lord has trapped inside the fairy gold. This is done by bringing forth an icing chill that is often heard by the brownies as a sign to start mourning for a lost member of the community. Sometimes Daoine can also call out as a warning, to warn those that approach their death, and thus sometimes avoiding it.

Appearance: Daoine is pictured as a beautiful woman dressed in a white robe. She has silver white hair and a soothing expression on her face. Her robe is decorated with some teal coloured ribbons. Her symbol is that of a heart with a green ribbon tied around it.

Ethellon: God of change
Alignment: True Neutral

A god that is truly worshiped few, he is often seen as the bringer of death itself. To be able to believe in him one must believe that change is inevitable and must always come no matter what.

He is most actively worshipped around the changing of the seasons and widely cursed at rites of passing of the dead. He, after all, is the god of change and death is a change. At the changing of the seasons a few food offerings are often brought to him, and then for the rest of the season he is mostly forgotten except when one dies, then he is the first to be called out to though not in a pleasant way.

Ethellon is a far less active god then Finnavar and Daoine Sidhe, and often his existence is under discussion. Also the brownies often see him as cruel, yet in truth he is not. He just IS, as his worshipers describe him.

One more change has been assigned to the domains of Ethellon, one that makes him a bit more favoured. He is also the one who spreads Luck. This mostly being the reason that his worship wasn’t given up on a long time ago, cause every brownie needs a bit of luck once every now and then.

Appearance: Ethellon is often pictured as a leprechaun, though his clothes are blue and silver instead of the usual green and gold. His symbol is that of the four-leaved clover with a rainbow behind it.

Very Happy Thank you, Flamecrow, for these creative editions to the pantheon. Very Happy

Deep Sashelas; Lord of the Undersea, the Dolphin Prince, the Knowledgeable One, Sailor's Friend

Deep Sashelas is the Lord of the Undersea and the patron of the sea elves, created when the Dolphin Prince enabled the elven inhabitants of a sinking city to survive in their submerged realm.

Symbol: A leaping dolphin upon an azure sea.

Domains: Animal (Aquatic), Knowledge (especially that which is hidden), Trickery, Water.

Portfolio: Change, Diplomacy and Illusion.

One of the Seldarine Sashelas is a powerfully creative deity forever changing the seascape, creating islands and reefs by altering the continental rifts, tinkering with undersea volcanoes and sculpting the shore.

A power for good in the depths the Lord of the Undersea mediates in many disagreements and potential conflicts and opposes the machinations of all the evil powers of the sea.

Named the Sailor’s Friend many a mortal owe their lives to the diplomacy of Deep Sashelas in calming the storms of Posiedon and other powers of the seas; and many a child has been saved, carried to safety from the seas, upon the back of a great dolphin.

The Lord of the Undersea is a charismatic leader, and an inspired artist whose work is ever changing; he is rarely satisfied with his own works and is ever seeking improvement.

Fickle and flighty there are many myths telling of his amorous exploits with mermaids and selkies, mortal sea elven maids, human females and even one demigoddess - so it is rumoured.

Yondalla ; Provider, Protector, Nurturing Matriarch

Yondalla is the Protector and Provider of halflings, she is the Nurturing Matriarch, not only of all halflings but of the halfling pantheon as well. Like all good matriarchs she is gentle and maternal for most of the time, but she can be strong and fierce when anything or anyone threatens those in her care. Her benign but firm rule has ensured that unlike most of the races, halflings only rarely succumb to evil. When haflings do fall prey to evil ways she does not angrily punish them, she attempts to gently guide them back onto the true paths.

Symbol: Shield with cornucopia.

Domains: Good, Plant, Protection, War

Portfolio: Protection, fertility, the halfling race, children, security, leadership, diplomacy, wisdom, the cycle of life, creation, family and familial love, tradition, community, and harmony.

Yondalla is also the goddess of fertility and growing. She can restore life and fertility to a barren land, and ensures the fields and orchards are full of growth to give comfort and plenty to the halfings. She also watches over the birth and growth of halfling young.

The family is of central importance to halfling culture and Yondallas concern and care for families is equally as important as her care for growing things. The goddess watches and intervenes where necessary to ensure that the families remain strong, close and peaceful.

Although she is gentle, benign and peaceful goddess, she is also the fierce protecter. Her nature is such that she avoids conflict, especially with the gods of other creatures, but when halfling lives, homes and lands are challenged she is a skilled, fearsome and powerful warrior. She can wither (cause premature aging to) those beings that dare attack halfings.

As a sign of her favour, Yondalla can bring favourable weather that blesses both the halfling people and the fields they tend. Conversely those who attack the halflings or offend Yondalla may find themselves beset by decidedly unfavourable weather.

When she appears to her people she may take on the form of a golden glow, but she usually appears as a highly attractive halfling woman, with a strong and determined but gentle bearing. She has long golden hair, a skirt of forest green, a corn yellow and earth brown tunic, and a stout wooden shield.

Beliefs:

There are very few formal temples to Yondalla, she is more commonly worshipped at small shrines and in the home. If temples do exist they are simple buildings carved into the hillside. The church is responsible both for caring and providing for haflings, and for defending them. The clerics maintain a stockpile of both food and weapons, and if needed they are fierce defenders. Prayers to Yondalla are made at first rising in the morning and her clerics follow a simple rules.

Seek peace and comfort, for a life lived with both is true wealth. Lead through example, and know the activities of those you lead so that you can help shoulder their burdens when need be. Treasure your family, for your parents gave you life and your children are your future. Care for the aged and the weak, for you never know when you may be one of the strong laid low.
