I keep on getting errors on the last line. Cannot execute binary file.
Any thoughts on why? or what I have wrong.

OS 10.4.11
Mac PPC

Do you have the executable - erf.exe or erf.mac or whatever is the mac version in your NWN directory?

Hi Dadsangry

OS 10.6.3
Intel Xeon 2.80Ghz

As Barry mentions make sure you have the erf.mac in your NeverwinterNights folder (also make sure you rename the folder the same as I have underscored, all one word).

In Terminal the commands should resemble this:

Mac-Pro:~ (user-name)$ cd ..
Mac-Pro:Users (user-name)$ cd ..
Mac-Pro:/ (user-name)$ cd applications
Mac-Pro:applications (user-name)$ cd neverwinternights
Mac-Pro:neverwinternights (user-name)$ chmod +x erf.mac
./erf.mac -vm http://cep.hgweb.org/man/cep.txt

The CEP Updater app should then open to look like this in full:

Mac-Pro:~ (user-name)$ cd ..
Mac-Pro:Users (user-name)$ cd ..
Mac-Pro:/ (user-name)$ cd applications
Mac-Pro:applications (user-name)$ cd neverwinternights
Mac-Pro:neverwinternights (user-name)$ chmod +x erf.mac
Mac-Pro:neverwinternights (user-name)$ ./erf.mac -vm http://cep.hgweb.org/man/cep.txt
received cep.txt (6318/6318 bytes)

You are about to update to the latest version of CEP. Please press CTRL-C
now if you do not wish to update, or press Enter to update.

Please ensure that Neverwinter Nights, the Toolset, NWN Explorer, and any
other NWN utilities you may be running are closed before you continue.

HTH & Welcome to RoA

Thank you for your quick response.

Yes the files erf.exe and erf.mac are in my newly name folder NeverwinterNights of which of course contains all the file for the game.

I tried again and still - cannot execute binary file

living-room:~ stephen$ cd ..
living-room:/Users stephen$ cd ..
living-room:/ stephen$ cd applications
living-room:/applications stephen$ cd neverwinternights
living-room:/applications/neverwinternights stephen$ chmod +x erf.mac
living-room:/applications/neverwinternights stephen$ ./erf.mac -vm http://cep.hgweb.org/man/cep.txt
-bash: ./erf.mac: cannot execute binary file
living-room:/applications/neverwinternights stephen$

What application is used to execute the erf.mac file? Maybe i'm missing it or its damaged. My computer lists erf.mac as a MacPaint Image.

Admittedly, I don't know much about Macs... but in my instalation the CEP updater files go into the NWN folder, not the NeverwinterNights folder. Could that be the problem? In the NeverwinterNights folder there is usually an NWN folder, that's where my CEP updater files are.

There is no NWN inside my NeverwinterNights folder. I made one just to try and put the CEP updater files into it. Still same error message.

PPCs are not supported by the updater, as the person compiling the program does not have a PPC to compile on. Also, there are internal code issues that seem to prevent a compilation taking place without a major recode.

It looks like the only option that PPC owners have at this time is to download the latest version of CEP from the vault. Perhaps we can get another update posted soon with all the most recent material. I will poke at a few people to see if we can make that happen.

In terminal, in the directory with the erf.mac file, run the command

chmod +x erf.mac

then run the other command to start the update. This command sets the erf.mac file as executable.

Yes on an Intel based machine but the PPC is not Intel based CPU and the erf.mac is not compiled for PPC and if i understand acaos and Malishara correctly there are problems with the code and calls to the PPC CPU.

acaos said he has not had access to a PPC Mac to try and compile a version for the NON Intel based Macs but he also said there are some calls in the code that are incompatible with the PPC CPU Chip.

I don't know if this will ever change - meaning I will need to post some regular updates on the vault for the latest version, something i have NOT been doing.

I will do this soon, but not until the ridable griffins are in - I am still waiting on those and they should have been in last week so we will see how long now.

I will post a link when it happens - acaos is adding new tilesets sent by our new team member Chico400 who just did some work on the model i use for the Feisty Chicken to deal with some crashing issues as well.

So we are waiting on inclusion of those tilesets, that fixed model, and the Egyptian tileset, some new doors and a few other things i made.

I believe it will be soon but *shrugs* i really don't know.

This ridable griffins will be in the update as well, so, all in all this update will be vary significant.

For all of you who have crashing issues with the Feisty Chicken Inn building - that includes me -- the model has finally been fixed by the new CEP Team member and modeler, Chico400.

I have the model and have tested it. NO CRASHING -- really i tried everything that i could think of that i KNOW crashed me and nothing happened.

This should be in the cep updater tonight.

UPDATE YOUR CEP -- if it did not download - run it tomorrow.

Although it is not a huge update, CEP has updated and what IS added will make a BIG difference to you if you are ever crashing around the Annakol North Road or Feisty Chicken Inn building.

This NWN2 model has been fix by the new CEP Team member in France, Chico400.

I encourage you all to update your CEP now. A few other creature models have been updated with fixes so not many new or fixed things yet but important fixes if you crash on the Annakol North Road at times.
