|A dirty lantern was dropped by a dog, in the Annakol tailor. Isobel, Laylla, and Lindy all stared at it. Finally, Laylla picked it up and stashed it in his pack. As they walked towards the fishing hole, it was apparent that the lantern was leaking oil all over Laylla's belongings.
The threesome walked out to the North Road, to see if anyone there could tell them where this lantern came from and perhaps why a dog would have dropped it in the tailorshop. No one was around, though, it being the middle of the night.
They stopped where there was more light and examined the lamp. Under some soot it seemed there was some writing. Laylla began rubbing the lamp to removed the soot, and a genie appeared. As one, the three took one step back and stood facing the genie.
Far from attacking, however, the genie offered Laylla one wish for having freed him. After some discussion, he wished for a thick, warm cloak for Isobel. This it was delivered to her at her feet, then the genie whisked away laughing.
Isobel went to her sleeping quarters with her warm cloak. Laylla and Lindy went off to the bathhouse to clean themselves and their belongings, including the now empty lamp.
On their return home, Lindy placed the clean lantern into the display case in Ludmilla's museum. She was careful to turn it with the writing facing upwards: "Beware the Genie"
